The freedom to attend church or sing hymns was never the point. Christianity has always sought to shape culture, transform lives and speak into every aspect of civic life. And that’s precisely the freedom we’re losing in Australia.

A landmark report released at Parliament House on Thursday found that nearly three quarters of Australian Christians have felt pressured to conceal their beliefs in public, online or at work.

A 2025 ACN report warns Australia is sliding toward religious freedom concern, citing government overreach, speech restrictions, lawfare, and rising antisemitism despite an overall cautiously positive outlook.

This is bigger than the Mater; it’s about whether conscience has any place in public life. If the Mater can be forced to violate its ethos or lose its funding, then no faith-based hospital, school, or charity is safe.

Is the Calvary Public Hospital travesty about to be repeated? This time, the taxpayer-funded ABC has written a hit piece on Brisbane's Mater Hospital for its Catholic pro-life policy on abortion.

As the abortion campaign to use legislative and economic coercion on public and Catholic hospitals to perform abortions expands, legislation is needed to protect the right to conscientious objection for medical professionals.

Most of us know there is a draft bill before the Parliament with a verbose title: Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill. Its name alone should tell us something smells. The answer to bad speech is MORE speech, not less.

Now we know that the Calvary Hospital takeover is part of a broader platform by the Greens and abortion providers to expand abortion and euthanasia to all Australian healthcare providers, including those run by religious institutions.

Take a stand for religious freedom. Ask the Federal Government to override the ACT Government’s compulsory acquisition of Calvary Hospital.

An ACT government report accused Calvary Hospital of denying life-saving treatment to a woman who suffered a miscarriage, only one month before it forcibly acquired the hospital. But this grave allegation was false — a fact never acknowledged or apologised for.
