COVID19 Call to Prayer – May 17: Keep the Needy Safe

Prayers from Psalms

5 “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,
I will now arise,” says the LORD.
“I will protect them from those who malign them.”
6 And the words of the LORD are flawless,
like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
7 You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked,
8 who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.
~ Psalm 12:5-6

In prayer we should seek to reflect the heart of God. He is concerned for the poor, the needy and those oppressed by the wicked. We also need to base our prayers on His words – they are flawless and have been proved and tested many times. Remember this when we pray.

“For many people, prayer is simply a way to convince God to give them something they want.
That kind of prayer never gets above the ceiling.”
~ A.W Tozer

Petition: Please join with us in praying for:

  1. India – The total number of confirmed cases is 90,648 with Covid-19, with 2,871 having passed away from the virus. India’s lockdown has been one of the strictest, but this has not stopped a sharp increase in the past week. Millions of migrant workers have been left without an income because of the economic shutdown.
  2. Victoria now has seen a total or 1551 cases (up 89 from a week ago) with 18 deaths (up 0).
    Victoria is now the state with the strictest lockdown and the highest number of daily cases.
    In Australia there have been 7,036 cases (up 20). There have been 98 deaths (up 0).
    6,362 people have recovered (up 25). 49 are in hospital (16 in ICU).
    1,015,652 people have been tested, with 0.7% being positive.
  3. Prime Minister Scott Morrison, his government and the state leaders and opposition.
  4. One of the big issues with a potential vaccine will be how it is distributed and paid for.
    Some of the wealthier countries are already competing with one another to secure guaranteed supply should one become available.
  5. For those suffering with cancer and other illnesses – who may put off seeking treatment because of fear of Covid-19 or of overwhelming the health service.

A Prayer of Repentance:
O Lord Jesus – this is Your day – the Day of the Lord.
We confess that often we do not make good use of this gift You have given to us.
Help us to be in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day. Amen.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving:
O God, who has prepared for them that love You
such good things as pass man’s understanding;
Pour into our hearts such love towards You,
that we, loving You above all things, may obtain Your promises,
which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
(Book of Common Prayer)
