Day 13: A Heart of Reconciliation

13 May 2021

2.7 MINS

Intention
God calls us to restore broken bridges—to be reconciled to him and then minister this reconciliation to others.

Scripture

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become righteousness of God in Him.”2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Reflection
There are two key points for us to reflect on in this Scripture. The first relates to us as individuals coming to God, and having our broken relationship with Him restored through all that Jesus has accomplished in His death, burial, and resurrection. The second relates to us being given responsibility to be reconciled to others, and to bring them into a knowledge of being reconciled to God.

God calls us to be His ambassadors. We are representing Him in and through our lives to bring the love of Jesus to a fallen world, reflecting His character and His nature. What an honour it is to be building bridges of reconciliation to individuals and groups that He has asked us to reach on His behalf.

Wherever you are at—either deciding to restore your bridge of relationship with Jesus, or reaching out to others to build bridges of reconciliation—God will enable you and give you grace to do what He has asked of you. In Romans 1:16, we are encouraged by Paul: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jews first and also for the Greek.”

Prayer
Father, we ask in the name of Jesus for the enabling grace by the power of the Holy Spirit to do all that You require of us. May the conviction of the Holy Spirit bring many to the cross and cause your church—your children—to not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation for many. Father, make us ambassadors for You, that the world will see we are one in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
