Kill It with Love
We have a particular grass that isn’t native to Australia, but flourishes at the expense of the native and improved pastures that are needed to help our stock to grow and thrive. Even if you cut it down and leave it lying on the ground, it releases a chemical that kills anything underneath it.
The advice we were given to try and get rid of this invasive pest was to shower it with love. That is: we should pour lots and lots of fertiliser on it. This would not only improve the soil, but the grass would grow so fast that it would not cope and, therefore, die.
How does this relate to us as Christians? We are dealing with a trend in our culture that is draining the life out of our society. I suspect that the best way to stop it spreading is to kill it with love. The love that God gives, and which should flow through us and out into the world around us.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good,
and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?
Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47 And if you greet only your own people,
what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
~ Matthew 5:43-48
No, this is not an easy task, but we have the greatest power at our disposal. Let’s ask God to give us the strength, courage and motivation to not just tell people that Jesus is the answer to their problems, but also show them how much He loves them. James chapter two helps us to know the wisdom of this.
Prayer:
Father, we come to You asking for strength, courage and the filling of the Holy Spirit
in order to carry out the work that You have given us to do in this time
where people are so lost and confused.
Help us to show, more than tell, the world that You love them
and desire to have a new relationship with them
that will enable them to live eternally in Heaven with You
once their time on this earth is over. Amen.
