Wondering in the Wilderness: A Perspective on COVID Rules
I had a phone call from a small business owner. They were distressed about the COVID rules being put forward regarding vaccine passports. If these rules are enforced, they will not have any choice but to sell their business. They had been advised that the current vaccines are unsuitable for them due to health issues.
I have similar concerns as I have health issues that make me unwilling to put myself at risk until I have greater confidence in the available products.
This is not about debating the rights or wrongs of the COVID rules. It is not about the mark of the beast, even though I’m sure this is a foretaste of what that situation might be like for those who have to live through it. It’s not even about our rights as Australians.
My concerns are about the practical issues, such as shopping, if the rules come into being. A number of people have complained about not being able to purchase much-needed items during the lockdown. For those of us who abstain from being vaccinated, it means that we will, effectively, be placed in permanent lockdown.
I must confess that I responded to this by weighing up the pros and cons of stockpiling goods. I settled on the futility of such a strategy because even I cannot foresee my future needs and desires.
As I prayed with this person, through tears, we acknowledged that God wasn’t surprised by this situation. He had an answer already available. We even acknowledged that He often waits until 11:59:59 to give us that answer.
God has seen this before
In the following days, I was reminded that God had helped people in this situation before. Deuteronomy 29:5 says
“I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoes have not grown old on your feet.”
If God could provide for up to two million people for forty years, with children constantly being added to the number and growing, then, surely, He can do the same for us. What He has done before, He is capable of doing again.
Prayer:
Lord, only you know what our future holds. Forgive us for not trusting you enough to wait for your answer to be delivered. We also pray for those who are working to make sure that our rights are protected. Bless them with courage, tenacity, wisdom, and endurance to see this matter through to the bitter end. Amen
