What Climate Emergency?
An international study of heat, floods, drought, hurricanes and tornadoes has found no evidence of a “climate emergency”.
Don’t expect that to make any difference to our suicidal net zero emissions fetish though. The climate emergency has never been about empirical evidence.
The study, reported Friday in The Australian, provided a long-term analysis of weather and major weather events. It found no positive trend of extreme events.
Precipitation
But what about those “rain bombs” that the ABC loves to report?
- On flooding, the report found that global rainfall had increased slightly but there was no evidence of increased flood magnitude. There was some evidence that flood magnitude had actually decreased.
- On cyclones and tornadoes, the report found their frequency and intensity were pretty much unchanged.
- On warming, the report found increases in heatwaves were “not significant”.
- On drought, the report found there was no evidence that areas affected by drought were increasing.
The team, led by Gianluca Alimonti from the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics and the University of Milan, concluded:
“On the basis of observational data, the climate crisis that, according to many sources, we are experiencing today, is not evident yet.”
So there you go! A peer-reviewed, heavily referenced study by international scientists pulls the rug out from under the climate catastrophising chicken-littles and grifters.
Contrivance
But don’t expect Adam Bandt or the political opportunists known as the Teals to suddenly concede that their cooked-up climate emergency is a dud.
They have too much power to lose. If there is no climate emergency, why do we need them?
And don’t expect insurance companies to take any notice of the study. It is in their interests to promote exaggerated weather events as a ruse to hike premiums.
Yes, it rained a lot in Lismore and a lot of people were affected. But the emotions generated by the flood don’t add up to science.
And destroying our standard of living to appease the weather gods won’t prevent houses built on flood plains from flooding again when the next flood occurs.
Also, Greta doesn’t like the study. If it was taken seriously, she would need to go back and finish school so that she can get a proper job.
The science doesn’t count. It’s more the vibe, when it suits.
As former PM Tony Abbott said in a speech delivered in London back in 2017:
“Contrary to the breathless assertions that climate change is behind every weather event, in Australia, the floods are not bigger, the bushfires are not worse, the droughts are not deeper or longer, and the cyclones are not more severe than they were in the 1800s. Sometimes, they do more damage but that’s because there’s more to destroy, not because their intensity has increased.”
Of course, you don’t need to be an Italian scientist or a former PM to know all of this.
You can download the Fort Denison (Sydney Harbour) past 100-year tide records and see for yourself that the rise is insignificant. Six millimetres, to be exact.
Or you can just look where so many of the climate zealots live — in mansions on the water’s edge.
The report recommends that nations do what they can to decrease pollution and to minimise impact on the environment without embarking on drastic action that would curtail the standard of living.
Again, as Tony Abbott said back in 2017:
“The only rational choice is to put Australian jobs and Australia’s standard of living first; to get emissions down but only as far as we can without putting prices up. After two decades’ experience of the very modest reality of climate change but the increasingly dire consequences of the policy to deal with it, anything else would be a dereliction of duty as well as a political death wish.”
Likely Ignored
But it’s horribly inconvenient when empirical evidence fails to confirm ideology. So expect the writers of the report to go the same way as Tony Abbott — they will be made international pariahs by the “climate change” industry.
What do you want to put your money on? That they will be dismissed as “not climate scientists”.
Lampooned for not having sufficient expertise?
Oh, I know… they will be accused of having been funded by the fossil fuel industry.
Or is it that they haven’t followed the scientific method?
Whatever. The science is settled. Anyone who argues otherwise is a climate denier!
Chris “the climate wars are over” Bowen will carry on tackling climate change despite there being no evidence of climate change.
The bottom line is this. Climate change policy is a bigger threat to civilisation than climate change.
