Day 13: Fire for the Rain
Intention
For the spiritual drought over Australia to be broken
Scripture
‘Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees…
Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.’
— 1 Kings 18:41, 45 (NKJV)
Reflection
During the reign of King Ahab, the Bible says that Israel was worshipping the false God of Ba’al. The nation was literally sacrificing its own children to idol gods. Never did the nation of Israel need revival more than in those days. The land was in drought, both physically and spiritually.
Then, along came the prophet, Elijah. He challenged the wicked King Ahab and his false prophets of Ba’al to a showdown on Mount Carmel.
He essentially said to the prophets of Ba’al: you build an altar to your “god”, and I will build an altar to my God — the only living God, Yahweh! Whichever “God” answers us by sending fire from Heaven onto our altar will be the true God. We should all follow Him.
The prophets of Ba’al accepted Elijah’s challenge. They called for fire to fall… but guess what? Nothing happened. NOTHING.
Then Elijah called down fire, and, WHOOSH, fire fell down from heaven!
God was faithful. The altar was ready. Evil was confronted head-on. The fire fell. The nation repented.
Israel now knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yahweh is the one true God, and, as a result, they turned from their sin to follow Him. As the spiritual drought broke over Israel, the physical drought was broken as well, and much-needed rain fell across the land.
Australia is in a spiritual drought today. We may have seen the physical drought broken, but we desperately need the spiritual drought to break too. We are also sacrificing our own children; we too are following false gods. The answer to our spiritual drought is the same answer given during Israel’s spiritual drought. We must have the fire fall!
What do I mean by that?
We need a revival of the Holy Spirit for our land of Australia. Spiritual rain can fall all across our nation again. And this can happen, if only we would confront the evil in our midst, repent, and ready ourselves for the fire to fall!
Reforming the world won’t do. A government change won’t do either.
What we need is for fire to fall on the church. When we are consumed by the Holy Spirit, our nation will experience the rains of His revival and the spiritual drought over Australia will be broken.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We pray for holiness and repentance to fill Your church. We pray for the Fire of the Holy Spirit to consume us. We acknowledge that it is only when this happens that the spiritual drought over Australia will be broken.
We pray for the rains of Your revival to break the spiritual drought over Australia today.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.

Identificational repentance is a very powerful corporate, priestly (1 Peter 2:9) prayer weapon, in which believers stand in the gap for their family, church, city, or nation by naming the sins that have shaped a people, confessing them before God, and turning from those patterns in heartfelt humility.
