Day 13: Tender Humble Hearts

3 February 2023

3.9 MINS

In our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, and in all prayer for the unborn, it is important that we seek the Lord’s face as we pray. The posture of our hearts is to humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways.

God knows what is in our hearts, and He loves to hear and answer prayer. If we approach the issue of abortion from a place of pride (of satisfaction in our own achievements), scripture says God opposes us. He shows favour and gives more grace to the humble.

“But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.’

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
~
James 4:6,10 (NIV)

God is looking for tender, responsive hearts willing to humble themselves before Him (as in 2 Kings 22:19 and 2 Chronicles 34:27 NKJV). Tender hearts to everything His word says about issues such as the shedding of innocent blood — in agreement with God’s heart, we know He hears our prayers.

God says when He brings situations to a nation to get their attention, He gives conditions to healing our land: ‘If My people will humble themselves and pray.’ Have we been quoting this scripture in prayer and still holding on to our own opinions, remaining in pride or contempt for others? We are to seek His face and turn from our wicked ways!

13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain,
or command the locusts to devour the land,
or send pestilence among My people,
14 if My people who are called by My name
will humble themselves,
and pray and seek My face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
15 Now My eyes will be open
and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
~ 2 Chronicles 7:13-15 (NKJV)

Our prayer being heard, and the state of our hearts, are key to overcoming. Jesus gave us His own example of humility and obedience.

And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself
and became obedient to the point of death,
even the death of the cross.”
~ Philippians 2:8 (NKJV)

He overcame death itself — we also overcame death (Colossians 2:20&3:3 NLT).
He is the Resurrection and the Life.

Worship

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we praise You. Jesus, You took the lowest place as You suffered in Gethsemane, enduring the cross. You are the resurrection and the life, the Lord and Giver of life. We humble ourselves before Your Throne and seek Your face to worship You, the only One who is worthy to open the scroll.

You Who were slain paid for our sin and the sin of our nation — Lord, we turn from our wicked ways and confess we have all sinned and fallen short of Your glory. Thank You that You have redeemed us and robed us in Your righteousness.

Lord, we thank You for Your mercy over our nation, and over every sin, and over the generational iniquities of the shedding of innocent blood. Lord, wash Australia of her blood guilt and remove every accusation against our nation.

Today we repent for the shedding of innocent blood and we ask for Your power to overcome abortion in our land — that Your will be done on earth, establishing Your Kingdom as it is in heaven, right here in our midst. Thank You, Lord. In Your precious redeeming Name, Jesus, Yeshua, Amen.

Prayer Points

  • Ask for every proud voice that has influence in our nation to be opposed by the Lord. Lord, take Your sword again today, as in Isaiah 27:1 (NLT): “In that day the Lord will take His terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan, the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea.” Decree that lies will have no more traction against the life of the innocent unborn.
  • We pray for every state and territory of Australia to come together to stand for life! For hearts to be awakened and every Christian to rally to rescue the unborn as the church rises up to “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 11 February and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” October, and for other states to join in and hold rallies or walks in their cities.

These three current Pro-Life Issues before Parliaments:

  • Pray that the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022 be passed speedily in 2023. This Bill will protect babies who are currently, in most states of Australia, being left to die after a failed abortion. This protection for such babies is currently law in New South Wales (2019) and South Australia (2021) as amendments to the state Termination of Pregnancy Acts. This Federal Bill, if passed, will make this legislation National. Pray for protection for the three Federal Senators Alex Antic (Liberal Party), Matthew Canavan (National Party) and Ralph Babet (United Australia Party) who presented this Bill on 30 November 2022.
  • On 28 September 2022, the Federal Senate referred an Inquiry into Universal Access to Reproductive Healthcare (abortion) to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs. This enquiry is all about broadening abortion access and entrenching it into federal law, possibly overriding state laws. Pray that the Lord stops this from occurring.
  • The passing in South Australia of the Statutes Amendment (Loss of Fetus) Amendment Bill 2022. Presented by MLC Sarah Game (One Nation). This bill would acknowledge the loss of an in-utero baby due to a criminal act, such as assault of the mother or dangerous driving — offences in their own right. This Bill is about justice and recognition of a life lost. Sadly abortion is not recognised as a criminal offence, but this bill will for the first time recognise the personhood of the unborn child.

Pray that abortion will not increase in Australia. The ACT Government has announced it will provide free abortions from 2023. There are also calls for taxpayers to fund abortions nationwide, and for nurses to be allowed to give out abortion pills.

I struggle with contempt often Anne. The mutilation involved in abortion and other abominations against our children and the vulnerable, make me feel physically sick. Contempt seems to be built to my physical nausea. Immediately I become conscious of directing it out toward another I repeat and pray. I believe it’s the directing it out, rather than containing it within my self which creates a powerful non verbal communication.
