Vitamin D Benefits Against COVID-19 ‘Conclusive’: New Meta-Analysis
Vitamin D provides 72% protection against ICU admission and 51% protection against death for COVID-19 patients, according to a new study. Why haven’t we heard this good news from peak health bodies?
A new meta-analysis has concluded that Vitamin D provides strong protection against death and admission to intensive care for people infected with COVID-19.
Hailing from Italy, the peer-reviewed study was published in the medical journal Pharmaceuticals last month. It found that “Vitamin D administration results in a reduced risk of death” of 0.49 — that is, it provides 51% protection against death from COVID-19.
The study also concluded that “Vitamin D administration results in a reduced risk of ICU admission” of 0.28. In other words, the readily-available vitamin offers 72% protection from admission to ICU among patients suffering from COVID-19.
The paper’s authors stated that, based on the trial sequential analysis they undertook, their findings were ‘conclusive’.
Vitamin D: Safe and Effective
The benefits of Vitamin D in fighting COVID-19 have been known from early in the pandemic. The Daily Declaration has published over a dozen articles highlighting this fact, dating as far back as August 2020.
Almost three years after the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it is unethical that healthcare regulators and agencies such as the Department of Health, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) are not recommending Vitamin D supplementation for the Australian population.
It is also a scandal that Western governments used lockdowns — which deprived their citizens of vital, Vitamin D-producing sunlight — as a blanket policy measure, sometimes for months at a time.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, four million Australians or 23 per cent of the population suffer from Vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D supplements are safe and — according to the recent meta-analysis — much more effective against COVID-19 than other treatments being recommended by Australian health regulators. Why have our nation’s peak medical bodies remained silent about the long-known benefits of Vitamin D throughout the pandemic?
TGA Industry Capture
Another recently-published report, this one in the British Medical Journal, may hint at an answer to this question.
“The BMJ asked six leading regulators, in Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, the UK, and US, a series of questions about their funding, transparency in their decision making (and of data), and the rate at which new drugs are approved,” the report states. “We found that industry money permeates the globe’s leading regulators, raising questions about their independence,” the authors note.
Of the six regulators, Australia had the highest proportion of budget from industry fees, at a whopping 96 per cent. The TGA has denied that its almost exclusive reliance on pharmaceutical industry funding represents a conflict of interest.
While big sums of money stand to be made by pharmaceutical companies and the regulators that approve their products, Vitamin D supplements generate only narrow margins for manufacturers.

Kurt, thank you so much for blowing the whistle on this one! What hit me as the high of insanity, back in the early days of the covid panic, was the sight of police ‘moving people on’ from Bondi beach! It just goes to show that governments are not really interest in science are they.
Please keep up the solid research and incisive comments, Kurt!
We all need to wake up to the truth in so many areas, and to be taught to THINK things through for ourselves.
Apathy, compromise, and lack of consistent prayer and delving into God’s Word – the Bible – are pulling us further down the tube of total atheism.
You have to wonder where Dr Campbell has been for the past two years when he says nobody is recommending Vitamin D for treatment of COVID symptoms, when I could find these links with a simple Google search that took all of two minutes, that uncovered all of these which go back as far as September 2020 expressly recommending the benefits of Vitamin D:
https://www.healthline.com/health-news/vitamin-d-can-help-reduce-covid19-risks
https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/forefront/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/vitamin-d-covid-study
https://www.news-medical.net/news/20220314/Current-evidence-that-vitamin-D-is-effective-against-COVID-19-neurological-sequelae.aspx
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33744444/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32811354/
So this is far from any kind of conspiracy. And when he wonders why the kind of research he’s citing in this recent paper aren’t performed in the UK or US, or Australia, then you have to wonder how he (and by extension the author of this article) can’t find what took me two minutes to find!
As for Dr Campbell’s claims for these two papers being “conclusive”, as Dr Susan Oliver (a REAL microbiologist) shows in this video, nothing could be further than the truth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhpc2re9pc8
But there is also, in the article here, a rather suggestive non sequitur leading from the totally false allegation, debunked by the links provided, as well as Dr Oliver’s video, that positive information regarding Vitamin D is covered up by regulators, leading to an allegation that they are funded, and therefore unduly influenced, by “Big Pharma”, and therefore do their bidding.
But even in the paper cited there is no such allegation made. Instead, there is a call for reform to the funding system to take away any kind of suggestion.
That’s all.
And you have to wonder what would happen if that funding ceased, if drug companies were no longer required to pay fees to the TGA for their medicines’ assessment. Then it would ALL have to come from the Government, which means OUR taxes are paying for the testing that drug companies need for their medications to be properly approved.
I can hear the howls of outrage against “Big Pharma” getting a free ride at our expense even now!
Sadly, I’m forced to the conclusion that this kind of article is what comes from putting all your trust in one side of the story. And in the case of Dr Campbell, he’s been shown repeatedly over the course of the pandemic to be a very unreliable source.
Dear Kim, many thanks for this detailed response. I have to say I have listened to Dr John Campbell, a little, over the last few years. I have found him to be ‘a good teacher’ but I have questioned some of his ‘assumptions’. He is quite prepared, in my view, to question ‘the standard narrative’ but without really ‘questioning everything’, as I think he should.
I really appreciated Dr Susan Oliver’s take despite her really hypnotic hand gesticulation! I thank you for alerting us to the dangers of being too gullible when we hear a doctor speaking!
Nevertheless, I am still convinced that, personally, as an example of a specific ethnic group (white Caucasians), I would do well to get a good dose of Vitamin D from the sun each day if I can. No meta-analysis here, simply that ‘I feel healthier’ if I am out in nature! Feeling healthier will surely impact my immune system and thus strengthen my resistance to any nasty bugs. I am no medical doctor, simply quoting my own biased, subjective opinion.
Thanks, Jim.
I haven’t watched as many of Campbell’s videos as you have, preferring reading to watching, but what I have seen gives me even less confidence in him than your qualified remarks, as his name, along with his claims, keep popping up and, as with Dr Oliver’s video here, are proven to be at best misinformed or at worst thoroughly bogus.
And it literally grieves me when the website which has given me the opportunity to explore any talent I may have as a writer, repeatedly posts articles which are so dependent on such claims that I, a layman, can find proof of their falsity in a very short amount of time. And I hope that you notice that, unlike some writers here, I will not make any truth claim, whether in my articles or my comments on articles, in relation to these issues without citing independent and authoritative medical sources, clinical trials or data analyses. This I take as a minimum requirement that should be expected of me. Sadly, this and other recent articles here are devoid of such warranted evidence.
As for Dr Oliver, yes, her hand gestures can be distracting, but her quirkiness could be seen to be masking a keen perception and, of course, as a PhD microbiologist, she uses her expertise well when she interprets those trial papers and data analyses in a way that can be understood by her audience.
As for Vitamin D, of course you’re right. And sunlight is still the best natural source. And that’s why it’s so much more important to make the point in Britain and Europe in Winter, as Dr Campbell does. And even the point made in the article regarding the lockdowns is invalid as far as the lockdowns restricting access to the outdoors goes. Even being in a Local Area of Concern, as my wife and I are, and locked down for 8 weeks in 2020, and then 13 through Winter in 2021, we were able to go for long walks to areas of native bush nearby.
So where the article makes the claim that we were “deprived…of vital, Vitamin D-producing sunlight — as a blanket policy measure, sometimes for months at a time”, it’s just not true.
This does not mean I’m advocating lockdowns. Far from it! But it’s detrimental to finding better ways to do things in the future if all you’re doing is creating a straw man argument of what you think was done wrong previously.
That’s one reason why we ALL need to guard against our own biased, subjective opinion. Me included.
Thank you for this article Kurt.
If I can add the following, and I have no medical qualifications just an interest in natural, health.
As I understand it vitamin D3 is the activated version of vitamin D. Meaning it facilitates/allows us to absorb this vitamin as we enjoy the sun light. For this reason I use vitamin D3 even though I have darker skin.
vitamin d and c was a recommended by speciast doctors we knew personally and who referred to other
overseas specialist doctors as part of a protocol to minimise or prevent getting
Covid 19 and helping recovery if infected I and many others have and still benefit from this awareness of benefits of Vitamin D etc . if not told by these doctors our Government health was not advertising it’s benefits so from my personal contacts many would be suffering more than necessary . A national inquiry into the Covid 19 response is long overdue and even a Royal Commission into the Government health response would be welcome…this would help to a large degree ..get a better overall understanding of the whole subject that has and is causing untold misery in Australia . Hon R Broadment MP spoke in Fed Parliament about vaccine injured and their pain and, requested a better response. Covid 19 situation in Australia in the national interest deserves a better response …we await that response from our Government Health chiefs and other decision makers that produce policy and laws that effect our everyday life ,( through work mandates for instance,.).
