The Late-Term Abortion Legacy of Queensland Premier Steven Miles
Queensland Premier Steven Miles doesn’t want the word to get out that late-term abortions have doubled under his watch.
This week I was trying to deliver a flyer to Premier Steven Miles and his office called the police.
Not one, but two police cars with sirens on, came blazing to the office!
By this time, I was a few streets away, letterboxing a flyer exposing how late-term abortions have doubled since Steven Miles introduced abortion up to birth in Queensland in 2018.
I was shocked at the unwillingness of the Miles office to hear the facts about the legacy of his abortion up to birth law and their desperation in calling the police.

The Abortion Legacy of Steven Miles
In 2018, before abortion up to birth had been introduced, then Health Minister Steven Miles assured the Queensland parliament his new law would not increase the number of babies killed via a late-term abortion.
In that year before his law was passed, 152 babies were killed by a late-term abortion.
Fast forward three years and under the new Miles law, that number had doubled with 304 babies killed in 2021 via a late-term abortion.
Steven Miles does not want this data to get out or for his lie to be exposed.
His actions this week show that he and his office will resort to extreme lengths to shut down this conversation.
We cannot allow Steven Miles to get away with this and we need to hold his government to account.

The reason late-term abortion is so horrific is because it kills a gestationally-viable baby who could survive if induced alive. A 2023 study of 29 babies born at 22 weeks found that with active intervention at birth these babies had a survival rate of 82.8%.
Data from Victoria and South Australia demonstrates that many of these babies killed at a late stage are perfectly healthy and do not have a condition that is incompatible with life.
Sign my open letter to Premier Steven Miles demanding he launch an inquiry into the doubling of late-term abortions in Queensland since the passage of his abortion up to birth law in 2018:
Dear Premier Miles,
I am writing to you to ask for your urgent investigation into the extraordinary increase of late-term abortions in Queensland since the passing of the Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2018, at which time you said that abortions would not increase.
Data collected from both before and after the Bill was passed shows that, not only has there been an increase, but this increase has been almost twofold. An inquiry into this substantial increase is needed because late-term abortions kill gestationally-viable preborn Australians.
Late-term abortion is the killing of the child in-utero via “feticide” and the inducing of labour to produce a child delivered vaginally, intact and stillborn.
Data from South Australia and Victoria shows that between half and 80% of babies killed through late-term abortion were perfectly viable, healthy and did not have a “condition incompatible with life”.
When you were Health Minister in 2018, you said that late-term abortions would not increase under the Bill. An investigation into this increase is needed to avoid more needless loss of life.
As a former Health Minister, and now as Premier, we are holding you to your word as this is a serious miscalculation during debate on a pivotal Bill.
We urge your urgent investigation into this matter.

If you’re a parent or a grandparent, you probably worry about what your child or grandchild is learning at school. In the first of its kind in Australia, a survey has been launched to measure parent attitudes to Respectful Relationship sessions in schools.

Dr Joanna Howe you are certainly a true warrior for the unborn in our land. God bless you and more power to you for your tireless advocacy for the unborn. The horrific fate of perfectly healthy babies being ripped apart, or however else they are aborted, should fire up all who are horrified and ashamed about the prevalence of abortion in Australia to do something about it. The repeal of laws permitting late term abortions in most states would be a welcome start.
