Catch Them Being Good
Do you want to grow as a father and deepen your connection with your children? Dads4Kids 10-week Courageous Fathering Online (ZOOM) course, priced at just $39, will help you to lead your family with courage, love, and wisdom. Register here.
The Courageous Online Fathering Course is a practical step-by-step guide on how to become a great dad and ‘lead by example’. It will give your children the best start in life. The course features 28 interviews with dads from all over the world sharing their personal experiences, ideas and ‘top three tips’ on how to be a great dad.
During week four of the course, a wonderful father of three, John Mathieson, shares one of his tips, which is to “catch them being good”. He explains it this way:
“All children have a go at each other occasionally… If you’re busy watching the footy, or whatever it is doing your thing… and you hear them fighting in the background, it’s (easy) to go and tell them off…”
“Instead of that negative, when they’re playing well together, walk in and (say), ‘Guys, that’s awesome how you’re playing so well together! Keep it up! I love the way you’re sharing, talking and relating to each other.’”
In other words, catch them being good!

As a dad of five daughters, I can certainly vouch for the effectiveness of positive encouragement when it comes to fathering. I’ve found encouraging your kids about good behaviour is one of the most effective ways to train, or disciple, your children.
You can find out more about positive parenting here, and ‘catch them being good’ from John Mathieson is just one of the many great gems of fathering wisdom found within the Courageous Online Fathering Course.
Many of the 28 dads interviewed in the course are qualified Dads4Kids trainers or fatherhood and family authors/speakers themselves. As a result, they have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.
The fathers interviewed include Australian (including Indigenous), South African, Fijian, Chinese-Indonesian, UK and USA. They represent a wide range of occupations: Air Force pilots, authors, engineers, teachers, farmers, doctors, and builders, among others.
The Courageous Online Fathering Course features young dads, older dads, dads with teenage children, single dads and granddads. The course is for all fathers who want to take their fathering to the next level.
Men learn best from other men, and our 10-week course is built around the strategy of peer-to-peer learning. Course participants draw wisdom and tips from a diverse and comprehensive group of fathers, and we have seen countless fathers and their families strengthened through the Dads4Kids Courageous Fathering Course.
If you are a dad, about to become a dad, a single dad or a grandad — this is the course for you. The next Courageous Online Fathering Course starts Tuesday, 8 October 2024 – BOOK NOW!
