Christianity vs Wokeism

A new political philosophy known as Wokeism has infiltrated our societal institutions in recent years. Wokeism is the term that is used to describe efforts to achieve social justice and equality for various minority groups who are seen as being socially oppressed. Wokeism has evolved from various forms of applied postmodernism.

For an overview of the historical antecedents to Wokeism, the reader is encouraged to consult the 2018 New York Times Bestseller Cynical Theories: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything About Race, Gender, and Identity, And Why This Harms Everybody, by Helen Pluckrose and James A. Lindsay.

Cultural Marxism

Cynical Theories outlines various manifestations of modern Social Justice Scholarship. Through judicious research, Pluckrose and Lindsay outline how Social Justice Scholarship is often underpinned by what appears to be an a priori set of negative and cynical beliefs about modern Western society. Through an often exclusively negative interpretation of history, Social Justice Scholars have arrived at the following conclusions:

  1. White people are oppressive.
  2. Modern Western society and culture are toxic and oppressive to minority groups.
  3. Society can be understood through the lens of power imbalances and oppression, with White Males being considered to be oppressors at the top.
  4. Some people are inherently victims on account of their demographic and racial status.

Wokeism presents itself as a positive force for humanity. However, as is shown below, it is markedly different in outcomes to the Judaeo-Christian values that have underpinned the success and freedoms of Western democracy. In the table below, a comparison of Christianity and Wokeism is provided.

Christian Value Woke Alternative
Mercy No mercy. If you say something politically incorrect or offensive, you will be deplatformed or lose your job.
Forgiveness No forgiveness. If you break the standards of political correctness that are inherent within Wokeism, it will be considered unacceptable, and consequences will follow.
Tolerance No tolerance. If you are seen as too politically Right-Wing, or oppose Climate Alarmism, your opinion will not be tolerated.
Patience Not likely. If you are seen as a White oppressor, you must be immediately silenced.
Lovingkindness Only towards those with the same views.
Redemption Not possible. If you are seen as a privileged oppressor who break the rules of Wokeism, you will be deplatformed.
Temperance Practitioners of Wokeism often engage in public displays of anger via protests, or via bullying the government into agreeing with their demands.
Gentleness Not likely. Practitioners of Wokeism often engage in angry protests regarding Climate Change and other social issues.
Kindness Is conditional, based on whether you agree with Wokeist doctrines.
Peace There cannot be peace while the Woke remain angry with the government, and see our societal systems as inherently toxic and oppressive.

Merciless

Increasingly in recent years, we have seen the deplatforming, cancellation, and firing of many high-profile individuals who have defied the tenets of Wokeism. Comedians have not been spared either. Anything that is seen as remotely offensive to minority groups now leads to severe outcomes. There is no place for mercy, redemption, or forgiveness.

Average Australians are living in fear of doing or saying things that may be seen as politically incorrect. In order to keep their jobs, people are staying silent and are learning not to say anything potentially humorous in case it violates the doctrines of Wokeism. Banter, satire, and parody have become lost arts.

The Iron Fist of Wokeism continues to choke the free speech out of everyday Australians.

What happened to our sense of humour? Our sense of mercy? Our sense of forgiveness? And more importantly: what happened to the love of our country that was once widespread?

The history of our country is one of adventure, achievement, and success.

But sadly, the Acolytes of Wokeism see our ancestors as “colonial oppressors” and continue to deface statues of Captain Cook when they are emotionally triggered.

As Easter approaches, it’s time that we remember our foundational Judaeo-Christian values, and dispel with the inherent cynicism of the Woke.
