Taste and See That He is Good: Day 3
Intention
To be passionate about sharing Jesus with others, because we have come to know how good He is.
Scripture
“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
I will boast in the Lord; the humble will hear and be glad.
Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
– Psalm 34:1–3, 8
Reflection
Psalm 34:8 is a wonderful verse and one which is particularly applicable to sharing our faith. Why? What we’re really doing is inviting people to enjoy something – i.e. someone – whom we have found joy and satisfaction in.
There are a couple of things in life which I am personally passionate about. A good gelato, a well-made coffee, my wife’s Spanish paella, and more recently, the benefits of owning a mountain e-bike. Ask my family or friends and they’ll tell you that I’m a natural salesman when it comes to any of these things. So much so that some have even jokingly suggested that I should give up being a pastor and perhaps start a café, work as a barrister or start a bike shop.
Why is that? Because I really want people to share in the blessing of each one of those things! I want them join with me in declaring the praises of what makes each one of those things so good. In fact, my enjoyment is enhanced all the more when they do and it’s somehow sadly lessened when they don’t.
How much more is this the case when it comes to Jesus. He truly is the most amazing person in the history of the world because in Him all things hold together. He is perfect in righteousness and un-equalled in showing compassion. To come to truly know Jesus then, is to experience the most profound and amazing relationship anyone could ever have. Indeed, the Bible says it is the essence of eternal life itself (John 17:3).
Not only that, but His love is completely undeserved. He died for us even while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). Most incredibly of all, by dying on the cross and rising again from the dead, Jesus has defeated sin, death and the Devil once and for all. And since He ascended into heaven, He constantly lives to intercede for us as our great and final High Priest (Hebrews 7:25).
Why, then, wouldn’t any of us want to share these incredible truths with those who don’t know Jesus? All too often we over-complicate things, assuming we need to be able to answer every question or objection before we share our faith. All we really need to do though, is tell them to ‘taste and see’. To try out Jesus for themselves and experience what He is like. Because as we know, if they do, then they won’t be disappointed!
So, let me encourage you to share with others what you really think, believe and feel. If Christ Jesus and His free gift of salvation is precious to you then share with others what you yourself have received.
Encourage them to experience what you have come to know is real and true and good. Leave how they respond to what you share between themselves and God.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We want to share Jesus with people because He is good. Deepen our experience with Him so that we can passionately and naturally tell others of the wonder we have found.
Reveal afresh Jesus and His free gift of salvation to us today, so we comprehend ever more clearly what a precious treasure we have in Him.
Open opportunities to talk with people today, so we can invite them to ‘taste and see’ that He is good.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
