An Open Letter to Chris Minns: Breaking Your Promises to Protect Unborn Children
Chris Minns, as the Premier of NSW, as well as a professing Roman Catholic, can I respectfully urge you to please protect the lives of unborn children as well as the religious freedom of those who are committed to doing so.
Despite your repeated promises, your government is now actively facilitating a private member’s bill by the Greens MP Amanda Cohn. As you would be aware, this piece of legislation would empower the Minister for Health to require all hospitals to provide abortions as well as remove all data-keeping requirements.
Reneging on a Promise
Can I please remind you, Premier, of what you said in a speech at the Maronite Catholic Society Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner on Friday, 28 March 2025? In particular, you explicitly stated:
I think it’s important that I do address some of the community consternation relating to a minor party bill currently before the House concerning conscientious objection in the provision of abortion.
I want to make it clear to everybody that I do not support this change, will not support this change and will not vote for it.
I also want to say, given all of the medical establishment, the major medical bodies in New South Wales oppose these changes, I do not expect it to pass the upper house, let alone pass it into law.
The reason I say that is because religious freedom is not just about observance of your faith on weekends at church.
It’s being able to live a Christian life in your community, in your profession, in your family, with your friends.
In such a short period of time, are you now reneging of what you have clearly promised? As the Premier of NSW and leader of the Labor Party, you have a responsibility to uphold the sanctity of human life. Abortion in Australia is legal up until birth, and yet this bill by the Greens would extend its application even further.
Evil Consequences of This Bill
What’s more, championing this bill will not only lead to an exodus of health workers due to their conscience concerns over the issue, but you will be directly undermining the religious freedom of a sizeable number of people in your state. A freedom which, as you yourself rightly said, isn’t restricted to being able to go to church on the weekend but extends to being able to practice one’s faith throughout the rest of the week.
As you know, when the Greens tried to introduce a similar bill in Victoria, the Premier Jacinta Allan did not allow the Labor Party to have a conscience vote. Which means you cannot hide behind the excuse that it is not in keeping with national party policy to completely oppose it.
I do not say this lightly Premier, but as someone who identifies as a Christian, can I remind you what the Bible says in Proverbs 6:16–19:
There are six things that the LORD hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathes out lies,
and one who sows discord among brothers.
There is going to come a day when we will all appear before the judgment seat of God. Just as surely as there will be a time when you are no longer in political office. Therefore, I sincerely call on you to do what is right by defending the religious convictions of your citizens and the unborn lives of future generations in our nation.

Hannah Murfy was at last week's anti-Greens' abortion bill rally in Sydney. Recently pregnant, she tragically lost her baby, which strengthened her conviction against dehumanising the unborn. Contact your MP today, as the bill could be voted on any time from Tuesday, 13 May.
Thank you Mark for such a strongly worded letter. Can I please add my signature to it? I am praying that the Premier reads and takes to heart what you have written.
Great letter that very competently expresses the convictions of many Christians and those who respect the sanctity of all human lives. Thank-you
Great letter Mark. I was actually in the Public Gallery yesterday afternoon when debate was taking place in the Legislative Council on this issue. There was only 2 of us initially watching on. (2 joined late in the debate.) There was some troubling speeches in support of the Bill, but also some encouraging ones as well, who strongly argued against this Bill.
At the same time, there were thousands outside attending the rally organised by Dr Joanna Howe. I had originally intended to go to this, but when I found out it was going to be given time in the Council, I decided to go in. Hadn’t done that before and it was interesting to see all the people you normally see through the media. Really disappointed to see Members on the conservative side of politics vote with the Greens and Labor. Great effort by John Ruddick in opposition to this. This Bill can not go ahead.
Fortunately, Christians know the end of the story. God has given us 2000 prophecies of Jesus’ second coming to set up His millennial reign on this earth. He wants us to know what is coming and be prepared. Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy provides us with incredible detail on the last seven years before Jesus’ returns, and we know that persecution/tribulation of Christians will intensify during this period especially after the Antichrist sits in the new temple yet to be built in Jerusalem and declares himself God. When 60% of Australians voted in gay marriage we became a goat nation destined for God’s judgement. I think our efforts need to be focused more on getting our family, friends and neighbours into God’s kingdom than on political events. Blessings, Ron
Woe to the sinful nation,
a people whose guilt is great,
a brood of evildoers,
children given to corruption!
They have forsaken the Lord;
they have spurned the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him.

This Bill cannot go ahead. For the reasons given in the letter. Please add my name to this against this Bill being passed.
Excellent letter, please add my name to it.

Praise the Lord for those who stand up for the sanctity of life.
There is a warning for those who believe and those who do not. See Hebrews 4. 13.
Why are some politicians more interested in killing people (abortion & euthanasia),
than in helping people live the best life they can in their circumstances (care during and after pregnancy & hospice care)?
