Dr Michael Youssef: The Red-Green Alliance Will Devour Itself
Dr Michael Youssef warns that radical progressivism and political Islam have formed a dangerous alliance against Western Judeo-Christian values, urging Christians to stand firm in truth.
Dr Michael Youssef’s 2026 book ‘An Unholy Alliance: How Progressivism Brought About an Islamist Invasion’ is a warning.
The far left and political Islam are uncommon allies who share a common goal.
They both want global domination. However, once they get the revolution they’re after, they’ll devour one another.
Born in Egypt and having lived in Lebanon and Australia, Youssef didn’t write the book from an ivory tower perspective. With 35 years of ministry experience, he’s lived it.
Strange Bedfellows: The Red-Green Alliance
He told John Anderson in an interview earlier this year, “Historically speaking, when the Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood and the left ever get together in order to accomplish a common goal, eventually they have to turn on each other.
“This is what the Unholy Alliance is all about. Even though now they’re kind of protecting each other and supporting each other, the day is coming when it’s going to blow up.”
Youssef said that an example from history is Egypt’s Nasser-led revolution in 1952.
“The military guys joined together with the Muslim Brotherhood until they got rid of King Farouk, and then the British, and gained independence. But then they turned on each other.”
Nasser eventually destroyed the Muslim Brotherhood until Sadat came along. Youssef explained that in Iran, Khomeini learned from Nasser.
“While the leftists are the ones who led the revolution in 1978 in Iran, when Khomeini landed from Paris, he had nothing. In fact, his people didn’t do much at all.”
Khomeini’s men called those leftists ‘mules of the revolution.’ Youssef told Anderson that they let the Left do all the work, then came in, took over and got rid of everyone — Khomeini killed them all.
“He didn’t want to wait as Nasser did, and they killed the clerics; he killed the leftists.”
Youssef said that far-left ‘progressives’ and political Islam, or the Red-Green alliance, will ultimately clash. Sadly, he added, for now they kind of work together hand in glove.
A Shared Opposition to Western Values
Inside the book, An Unholy Alliance, Youssef wrote, “The murderer of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim exemplifies the devil’s bargain between radical Islam and radical Progressivism.”
For context, Lischinsky, a Christian Israeli and Milgrim, a Jewish American, were brutally gunned down in Washington, DC, by far-left terrorist Elias Rodriguez in 2025. He executed the two in public while shouting “Free Palestine”.
This bloody example, Youssef says, is one among many that prove Western Civilisation is under assault by both Islamists and Leftists.
As he stated, “Both of these movements seek our submission and our destruction — and they have joined forces.
“Radical, political Islam is bent on sweeping away Western civilisation and imposing a global caliphate. The radical Progressive left is bent on sweeping away Western civilisation and imposing a Marxist paradise, without ‘capitalism’, without ‘colonialism’, and without Christianity and the nuclear family.”
Youssef then warns, “The Islamists and the leftists have bonded over their shared hatred of Western Judeo-Christian values.”
For example, there’s an Islamist proverb which simply states: ‘first the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.’
“We are under a combined assault from Islamists and leftists,” Youssef argued. He added that “our leaders are either too afraid or too passive to confront the threat. These two ideologies reject peaceful coexistence with the rest of the world and demand the complete submission of their enemies.
“As Christianity withers in many corners of Europe and America, the radicals scurry into the vacuum. In Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and America, enclaves of unassimilated Muslims are springing up, and radical leftists are seizing political power.”
Describing the Unholy Alliance as a “paradoxical coalition,” Youssef said it’s a “strange marriage.”
He later writes, “It makes no rational sense for feminists and LGBTQ activists to ally themselves with radical Islamists — yet they do, and they see no contradiction.”
Youssef said that this strange marriage is evidenced by New York City’s new mayor, “the aggressively anti-capitalist, anti-Western Zohran Mamdani.”
“He achieved victory by shrewdly wrapping the poison pill of Islamism in a sugar-coating of “free” giveaways and socialist income redistribution.”
Standing Firm in Truth and Love
While the gathering storm looks inevitable, Youssef is clear: Don’t abandon hope.
He states, “Let’s be strong and courageous in the Lord, ready at all times to speak God’s truth, to defend our values, and to proclaim the love of Jesus wherever we go.”
Although not specifically referenced, Youssef’s practical encouragement draws from James 1 and Ephesians 4:15.
Advising assertiveness, he wrote, “In your workplace, at school board meetings, on your campus, and elsewhere, you may encounter secular leftists and Islamists who want to silence you and intimidate you by calling you an ‘Islamophobe’. Don’t get angry — but don’t let them silence you either. Plant your feet on the firm foundation of God’s truth and speak the truth in love.”
His advice can be summed up in six proactive steps for Christians who face increasing hostility at home.
Pray. Don’t be intimidated. Have a healthy scepticism towards the news. Stand firm in the truth. Firmly expose the consequences of leftist logic and be gracious with rebuke.
As Youssef’s Unholy Alliance concludes, “Be the salt Jesus has called you to be. Be the light that proclaims God’s truth. Pray in His name. Act in His name. Then watch God work His will through you.”
