Rent Unaffordable? Power Prices Through the Roof? Look Over There, a Rainbow!

Australia now has its first gay pride museum, thanks to Catholic NSW Premier Chris Minns.

Minns’ Labor government has spent almost $4m — during a cost of living crisis, no less — to turn the old Darlinghurst Police Station into a celebration of LBGTQ pride.

In a fabulous, sparkly tweet, Minns said:

“It’s official — we’ve just handed the keys over for Australia’s first ever pride museum.

“Delivering not just for the people of NSW, but for generations of LGBTIQ+ Australians.

“Turning the old Darlinghurst Police Station from a place of injustice into a place of pride and joy.”

Wait, doesn’t Melbourne already have a Pride Centre? Or is Minns busy erasing gays in Australia’s most progressive state?

As for the claim that he is “delivering not just for the people of NSW”, I think what he meant to say was that forking out $3.85m on a gay museum is an example of his government “not delivering for the people of NSW”.

But the bit that really confused me was the “place of pride and joy”. I thought we had Mardi Gras for that.

Anyway, now we’ve got Australia’s first ever — apart from the Melbourne Pride Centre — gay museum that is delivering zero pride, or joy, for the people of New South Wales, who are too busy being crushed under the weight of rent and energy prices to care which way other people swing.

Isn’t it all just fantabulous?

Cause Célèbre

Hopefully, Minns will devote an entire wing of the museum to celebrate Victorian laws that criminalise parents who fail to affirm their confused child’s chosen gender identities.

And the museum simply must have a display honouring Victorian laws that criminalise Christian ministers who pray for people to resist homosexual temptation, even if the person has themselves requested the prayer.

Something marking the Queensland Education Department’s edict that teachers should deceive parents when a student asks them to help change gender would be a nice addition.

And when the Minns’ government helps Alex Greenwich’s “equality” bill become law — a bill that will ban women from having areas and events away from heterosexual men — they can have a space dedicated to that achievement too.

Yay!

A sporting-themed area celebrating men identifying as women dominating female sports would be popular.

There are so many things to take pride in, they’ll need to buy an extra property to celebrate them all.

Taboo

Some things will, of course, be missing. You can guarantee there won’t be a special exhibition on the marginalisation of lesbians who know what a woman is.

And not even a corner of the museum will be reserved to recognising those girls who have de-transitioned after being encouraged to have double mastectomies in a bid to become their true boyish selves.

Minns promised before the state election that Labor would pour $3.85m of taxpayer money into the museum.

This is the same Minns who refused to light up the Opera House last year to honour King Charles’ coronation because he didn’t want to waste even $100,000 of public money.

Still, you can’t have too many tourist attractions, right? The Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair… and the gay museum.

We one percent needed this.
