If you needed proof that our foreign policy is written with a crayon on the back of a napkin, this is it.

Twenty-four hours.

That’s all it took for the Prime Minister’s “opposite of what Hamas wants” to suddenly become a press release on Hamas’ letterhead.

Anthony Albanese assured Australians on Tuesday that recognising a Palestinian state was the exact opposite of what Hamas wanted.

I’ll quote him verbatim:

“This is the opposite of what Hamas wants.”

Nek minnit…

Anthony Albanese is being hailed as a hero by Hamas.

Violence Vindicated

The terror group’s co-founder released a statement yesterday praising Albo’s “political courage” and declaring his new policy on Palestine “an important step” towards “justice”.

In other words, what Albanese boasted was the “opposite of what Hamas wants” is EXACTLY what Hamas wants.

It must be gratifying for the Prime Minister to now count Hamas co-founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef alongside Communist dictator Xi Jinping as co-chairs of his international fan club.

Yousef hailed Australia’s recognition of Palestine as vindication for the October 7 massacre – the day Hamas raped women, slaughtered babies, and dragged hostages into tunnels.

But don’t worry – the PM’s office will no doubt clarify that when Hamas says “vindication”, they really mean “crushing diplomatic defeat”.

Weird how things get mixed up in translation.

Great Example

Then came the pièce de résistance from Hassan Yousef:

“We call on all countries, especially those that believe in freedom and human dignity, to follow Australia’s example and translate their positions into practical steps to support the Palestinian people and end their suffering under occupation.”

Hamas thinks so much of Anthony Albanese that they are encouraging other world leaders to be more like him.

Remember, this is the same Hamas that is on Australia’s official list of terrorist organisations – the list you would think a Prime Minister might consult before shaping foreign policy.

If you needed proof that our foreign policy is being written with a crayon on the back of a napkin, this is it.

But here we are, with our Prime Minister effectively receiving a standing ovation from terrorists.

And the rest of the world is taking notes – especially the Americans who will be wondering, what’s next?

Will Albanese next accept defence policy advice from the CCP?

Will Albanese next invite Russian hackers to redesign MyGov?

Nothing would surprise at this point.

But here’s the part that really annoys me.

Instead of asking how it’s possible to be applauded by people who treat “peace talks” as opportunities to reload, the Government will go on insisting their decision to recognise Palestine is a sophisticated diplomatic move.

The Prime Minister set out to do “the opposite of what Hamas wants” and somehow ended up taking their victory lap for them.
