Elton John Breaks Up with Rocket Man
Elton John has quit Twitter.
The iconic singer-songwriter advised his 1.1 million followers:
All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked.

Making a Spectacle
I love how people announce on Twitter they are leaving Twitter.
Sad tweets say so much.
Wouldn’t it be easier to walk away?
Surely Elton could have told Elon privately, “I don’t wanna go on with you like that.”
But no, honkey cats just can’t help themselves. And Saturday (or in this case Friday) night’s alright for fighting. He’s un-making friends for the world to see.
Anyway, the music legend’s departure from Twitter is no great loss. No one ever hummed along to one of Elton’s tweets.
Pretext
Elton is saddened by “misinformation” that is apparently flourishing ever since rocket man Elon Musk decided to shine a light, shine a light, shine a light, won’t you shine a light on Twitter’s cold heart fact-checkers who were censoring people with whom they disagreed.
When celebrities complain about “misinformation”, they mean opinions they don’t share.
I can only imagine the kind of misinformation we’re talking about…
That there are only two genders? That drag queens aren’t appropriate role models for children? That Covid-19 vaccine doesn’t stop the spread? That Hunter Biden’s laptop exists? Clearly, ideas that spread heartache all over the world.
Being subjected to this runaway train of unfashionable truth was apparently all too much for Elton. I guess that’s why they call it the blues. He quit those days, and his redneck ways, and if Musk would only get back, oh, the change is gonna do him good.
Riposte
Anyway, the Rocket Man responded to the entertainer’s Twitter tantrum, essentially begging his favourite singer, “Don’t go breaking my heart.”
No one wants to lose a follower like Sir Elton John as we step into Christmas. Anyone other than Musk would have been racking his brain thinking, “I don’t have much money, but boy if I did …”
Instead, Elon tweeted Elton:
“I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?”
It might as well have been a word in Spanish.
Turns out $US44b can buy you Twitter, but even mamma can’t buy you love, at least not Elton’s.
Hypocrite
Having complained about misinformation, Elton failed to give even one example which, in my view, makes him too low for zero. He’s on a losing streak.
The five-time Grammy Award winner might have backed down, but sorry seems to be the hardest word. Instead, he just up and hit the yellow brick road.
In truth, Elton likely doesn’t have a clue why he’s leaving Twitter. It presumably just doesn’t “feel” right, and so he doesn’t wanna play this game no more.
Rage-leaving a social media platform that he has probably never personally posted on — he has always had other people write his lyrics — is peak virtue signalling. But it’s no sacrifice, no sacrifice, it’s no sacrifice at all.
I remember when rock was young, but I can’t remember Elton complaining when Twitter was enabling terrorists like Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei to threaten Jews with destruction.
But now regular people are allowed to say what they think, Elton is all “goodbye Twitter feed, though I never tweeted at all…”
He has the moral authority of a candle in the wind.
The fact is that “misinformation” must be allowed in a free society. If it’s not, we are back to the good old days when central authorities decide what can and cannot be said.
I thought Elton loved Philadelphia Freedom.
He, like the rest of us, should be allowed to read what he wants and to make his own judgements about what is true and what is not.
Needless to say, more than two days after Elton John announced he was leaving Twitter, he was still on Twitter.
Should we really be surprised? His farewell tour began in 2018 and is still going.
