What is a Woman? What is a Conservative?
Want to know why the Liberal Party is cooked?
Want to know why, having been trounced on Saturday, they’re likely to spend the next decade being trounced again, and again?
How do you think they reacted to the weekend’s shellacking?
Former Senator Simon Birmingham woke up on Sunday morning and decided that implementing quotas on the number of women standing as candidates would make them more electable.
Imagine thinking that the way to beat Labor is by embracing identity politics…
And Birmingham is meant to be a conservative!
The problem with the Liberal Party is not that they didn’t have enough women but that they didn’t allow the women they had to speak.
Ignoring a Woman: Jacinta Price
Senator Jacinta Price is a future PM. She was largely responsible for defeating the divisive Voice proposal.
And yet, where was she during the election campaign?
The Coalition’s star female was primarily kept out of sight.
When she was finally allowed out in public she just happened to mention that she wanted to ‘make Australia great again’ – nothing wrong with that – only to be crucified for daring say something passing familiar with what Trump said about his country.
We never saw her again.
But sure, institute quotas for women.
The Liberal Party pre-selected a woman for the seat of Bradfield after Paul Fletcher resigned from Parliament.
They could have had the mighty Warren Mundine, fresh from his national role alongside Jacinta Price wining the Voice referendum, as their candidate.
But Mundine really is a conservative. So they declined to offer him the spot.
The seat of Bradfield, while still too close to call, looks likely to go to a Teal.
Face palm!
Ignorant of What a Woman Is?
The Liberal Party lost me when leader Peter Dutton declined to say during the campaign what a woman was.
Not even a declaration by the British Supreme Court that sex was a fixed biological reality was sufficient to give Dutton the courage to say with any certainty what a woman was.
Dutton said he didn’t need to answer the question because it wasn’t an issue for most Australians. Jane Hume similarly deflected the question.
Let me tell the Liberals what is an issue.
If you haven’t the balls to say that a woman is, then you certainly won’t have the spine to make any tough calls.
You want me to believe you’ll make tough calls to keep us safe from China or to fix the energy grid or to curtail immigration when you can’t even say that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina?
Please!
Meanwhile, Birmingham and other moderates who likely wouldn’t have answered the question either, now want women quotas.
It’s a joke right.
On the one hand you won’t say what a woman is and on the other hand you say the key to defeating Labor is more women.
What is a Conservative?
Here’s a question for the few Liberals remaining in the Australian Parliament: What is a conservative?
I’m not sure, Alex Antic not withstanding, many know the answer to that question either.
The maddening thing is that Liberals obviously know what a woman is. They are just are too afraid to say.
The Liberals also know that the dismantling of our entire electricity grid in pursuit of Net Zero is an exercise in national suicide – but are too afraid to say so.
Dutton was too scared to say Make Australia Great Again and too scared to admit he might know Donald Trump. Indeed, he boasted that he did not!
Afraid of being labelled a mini-Trump, he announced a version of DOGE only to never mention it again. And he announced he would de-woke the school curriculum only to later say he had “no plans”.
He was so afraid of being typecast as nasty that he pulled his punches when Albanese’s lying lips were begging to be hit.
When the Liberals did display courage it was only after the general public had done so.
The Liberals, remember, were late in opposing the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. They got to the right policy position, but only when it was safe to do so.
And now they have been reduced to a rump in the Federal Parliament.
They need to rediscover their conservative values. Oh, and a set of balls wouldn’t go astray either.

Right on Jame Alex Antic
Yeahhh, James!
The Libertarians and People First offer the best prospects for anti-Labor base. Senator Rennick is obviously strongly identified with People First, but not in the domineering manner exhibited by other small party leaders.
The Liberals will prove over the course of this term whether or not they have a future. If Jacinta Price, Andrew Hastie and Alex Antic are shunted into oblivion, then we will all know for sure that the dark heart of the party is not going to be moved. Good people may go down with the ship. I would nope not.
Perceptive article. It is true the Libs were seen as not to stand for anything, and so they fell!
