Australia’s Recognition of Palestine: A Terrible Betrayal

14 August 2025

2.4 MINS

The blood of Australian soldiers stained the soil of the Holy Land to free it from the colonial rule of the Ottoman Empire and their German allies in World War 1. The bones of our soldiers lie in Commonwealth war graves in Israel and Gaza.

The ANZACs were feted by the Netanyahu Israeli government at the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba (Be’er-Sheva) on 31 October 2017. We were there, leading an international team, as Australian descendants of the light horsemen, in uniform, rode their horses through the city. We watched with excited crowds as they reenacted the famous charge that opened the way to the liberation of Jerusalem after centuries of Islamic occupation.

But now Australia has turned its back on Israel by deciding to recognise Palestine, which is committed to the destruction of Israel and the genocide or removal of its Jews.

The Australian government plans to do this at the United Nations meeting in September, along with France, the United Kingdom and Canada, joining 147 nations who have already done so. However, Palestinians do not want a two-state solution. They want a one-state solution, all of Israel with Jerusalem as their capital.

Do we want it on our conscience that we are recognising a terror state that has gloated over and vowed it will repeat the October 7 civilian massacre, rape, torture, and kidnapping war crimes over and over again?

Misdirected Sympathy

This is an existential struggle for Israel, our supposed ally, and the only democracy in the Middle East. The only nation in the world standing with Israel is the United States. Our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese would rather talk with Mahmoud Abbas, who succeeded PLO terror leader Yasser Arafat, than our long-term ally, the USA. Abbas also has a “pay for slay” of Jews policy, has been accused of corruption, and does not have to face elections.

Apart from sympathy for the Palestinian issue from Albanese’s university days, our Prime Minister and our Foreign Minister Penny Wong have no doubt been influenced by fake news of starving children in Gaza. No one wants war, and no one wants starvation, but the responsibility of Hamas and the United Nations in stopping food from getting to Gazans must be recognised.

Our government and, particularly, Senator Wong, have always put pressure on Israel and not on Hamas, showing double standards. Hamas broke the ceasefire on October 7, and many ceasefires have been agreed to by Israel and not Hamas since then.

Counterproductive

US Secretary of State Mark Rubio told an American Catholic radio station, “Talks with Hamas fell apart on the day Macron made the unilateral decision that he’s going to recognise the Palestinian state.” (The Australian, 11 August 2025)

It is the height of irresponsibility and moral confusion to recognise Palestine before its borders are delineated, before it can govern without civil war between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, before it is not governed by a terror group like Hamas, or before it has agreed to release the hostages, cease war with Israel, recognise Israel’s right to exist and stop indoctrinating its children to hate and kill Jews.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke’s assertion that Labor can recognise Palestine even if Hamas occupies half its lands is ridiculous. He says it is similar to Australia dealing diplomatically with Syria and Iraq while Islamic State occupied lands there. However, these were nations long before ISIS operated there. How many more terror groups will line up for their own state now?

Apart from delaying a resolution to the conflict, resulting in more lives lost, premature recognition of a Palestinian state, which in an ideal world would live side by side with Israel in peace, will result in losing the leverage needed to secure the reforms necessary to achieve it.

It was a tragic day for Australia when our PM announced he would be voting for a Palestinian state at the United Nations. If only he had studied the noble history of the battle of Bethsheba when young Australian men gave their lives in order to win back Bathsheba from the Turks.
If only he had studied the way Australia has stood with Israel through later history in WW2 and then opened the door to allow Holocaust survivors into our land to recover from the worse persecution of that century.
…If only our Prime minister and Foreign Minister would study the IDF’s role in keeping peace and helping to distribute aid into the right hands while risking their lives. (The Hamas all through this war since Oct 2023 have stolen the aide, inflated the prices and used the aid money to wage their own war against Israel- never caring for the Gaza refugees or citizens)
If only our PM and the media and general populaion had read the Bible and seen that God gave Israel the land and again in 1948 the land was given to them…. and later Israel gave Gaza as a peace a offering 2005 to the gaza people but they instead under the hamas rule 2006 began to build secret tunnels into Israel in order to attack, kill or kidnap every Jew possible
God sees all things and He will judge our land for the decisions we make – ‘those who curse Israel shall be cursed’ and ‘Those who bless Israel will be blessed.’
May God give insight and opne blind eyes and may many study the true situation and seek the truth concerning Israel’s history.

Thanks Norman & Barbara Miller. A very simple and clear message.
It sickens me that our government would effectively enable terrorists.

We all want the war to end; but is MUST include the complete removal of Hamas, PIJ etc.

Clearly land for peace also fails; and Israel must make its security an absolute priority.

I am appalled at Abanese and Wong siding with Israel’s enemies. They must have it in their hearts too.
They demonstrate wilful ignorance of history, wilful ignorance of the true motives of Hamas and the PA when they prefer to believe their propaganda and lies.
    Shame upon them!
You do not represent tge true Aussie. You are traitors to Israel, the Jewish community and us.

Appalling that an Australian Government can get into bed with Terrorists. Our soldiers fought for freedom and we as a Christian Nation stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel. Never thought we would ever see a Government elect turn their backs on Australian People. This is the biggest disgrace We have ever seen in our lifetime.

Thank you, Norman and Barbara, for your clarity! I heard our prime minister state that in 1947 Australia was the first to endorse a two state solution. To not acknowledge that those who refused such an arrangement have always been the non-Israel parties is misleading or ignorance of history. To ignore the underlying philosophy that supports the elimination of Israel is the same. What do the chants say? “From the river to the sea!” Gaza was emptied by Israel for others to create a self governing Palestinian region. What the recipients of that generosity have demonstrated is that it is not what they want. May God restore to Israel what He covenanted with them to be their possession.

Hi, this is Ruth, 8th generation as an Australian, my children 9th generation Australian. I am grieved by our government betraying us… it’s people… to allow our country to be a TV set for Pro-Hamas demonstrations and reward the movie makers 20 million, does that make it now 130 million given to the Hamas supporters? The people were misguided by what promises to vote them back in? This is indeed the Darkest time yet in our history. But we are still called for such a time as this. RUTHLESS men and women have authority in our nation. I pray the righteous will rise up to confront this first in prayer. Fair dinkum, Israel would have ended the war a long time ago if only Hamas had given back its people they stole from their homes. The pain and suffering and bloodshed be apon these people who prolong the war… clearly the invading Hamas under the guise of “nationhood”. No it is a religious war, now come to Australia! Anzac arise and march again… reclaim our land our bridge!

The recognition of the Hamas terrorist group by the Australian government is deliberately and knowingly anti-semitic and done despite the reasonable objections by those who have presented the historical facts to the politicians involved. What’s galling is that this has been done without the mandate of the Australian peoples as a whole. The media has done a masterful job in only presenting one side of a very complex issue. It seems that both media, our government and the educational institutions “don’t want to know” any other view but their own. It makes one doubt if we have democracy at all.

I am a veteran of 25 years in our defence forces and a Vietnam veteran – I never thought I would ever be ashamed of our government – sadly I am now totally ashamed of this government. Australia has been put in the position of supporting a terrorist movement and abandoning our long term ally in Israel (and also leaving us in disagreement with the USA). I can only concur with all the comments above – our government is led by absolute fools! By their actions against Israel, plus shameful abortion laws and support of gender confusing teachings in our schools, blindly chasing idiotic ideoligies that are crippling our nation and ignoring our Judeo/Christain heritage, I fear Australia is at great risk of entering a very dark place. May our God have mercy on us!

So true that brave Australians fought and died to free Israel from the tyranny of Islam. So too did Britain and New Zealand and now they are calling for a recognition of a Palestinian State. Absolutely ludicrous. They are so ignorant of the blessing of God on our nations for standing with God’s chosen people. Albanese’s words and stance are not about sympathizing with hungry people in Gazza, no it’s about deconstructing the Judeo- Christian culture that has prospered the west under the blessing of God, so the socialist Marxist oppressive system can be implemented. I believe the scriptures call this the spirit of anti-Christ, and the oppression that comes with that.
Well, Albanese, Wong, Burke & the rest of the ignorant voices you don’t speak for Australia, we the son’s and daughter’s of God in Jesus Christ do, this is the great Southland of the Holy Spirit, which God Almighty has blessed. Australia stands with Israel, and we declare the blessing and protection of God over the land of Israel and over the Jews in Israel and who are all over the world, in the powerful, mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This terrible betrayal is a logical lurch into the abyss of the culture of death. violence, hatred and division which has been ratified in our parliaments, law by evil law, for the past 50 years. Nations withe the blood of innocents dripping from their hands, always turn on the Jews as the scapegoat of history, refusing to admit their crimes against the unborn, marriage, and the natural law. The rejection of Christ Himself in exchange for the demonic means the Jew and the Christian will suffer rdnewed persecution in our day. we must fast and pray for God’s mercy to bring ourworld to its knees.

It beats me why anyone would vote Albanese and Penny Wong into government again!! I agree with everything written in the article and the replying letters! Albanese and his cohorts seem determined to turn us into a Marxist nation, but could it be a wake-up call to the Church? After all, WE are meant to be the head and not the tail! Yes! This land of Australia is “The Great Southland of the Holy Spirit,” we believe it and we “stand in the gap,” for our Nation! God has His hand on this Nation, and He is faithful! Amen

This is a spiritual battle, the enemy of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Bible has forewarned us about these events. The Australian Government has fallen into the trap of the enemy, whether willingly or by deception, he wants the Judeo/Christian roots of this country pulled up and discarded. It’s easy to loathe and despise the people who make these heinous decisions, however my prayer is that they repent on their knees before the living God, so their souls will be saved. Yes I agree with all the previous comments, however one thing saddens me, where is the church their silence is deafening, why isn’t the church united in marching in support of Israel, its not political its Biblical.

You have both made the most dangerous and erróneos decisión for Australia by intending to vote for a two State Solution in September at the UN. You have made a terrible mistake.
What you are both doing is rewarding Hamas for what they did to ISRAEL on the 7 of October2023 and given them license to continue with evil plan to destroying Israel hence, from the river to the sea, ‘ meaning removing ISRAEL completely. They have never said yes to a two States Solution, So Why are You? Reconsider your decision.

As a child, Elias Chacour lived in a small Palestinian village in Galilee. The townspeople were proud of their ancient Christian heritage and lived at peace with their Jewish neighbors. But early in 1947, their idyllic lifestyle was swept away as tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed and nearly one million forced into refugee camps. An exile in his native land, Elias began a years-long struggle with his love for the Jewish people and the world’s misunderstanding of his own people, the Palestinians. How was he to respond? He found his answer in the simple, haunting words of the Man of Galilee: “Blessed are the peacemakers.” In Blood Brothers, Chacour blends his riveting life story with historical research to reveal a little-known side of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the birth of modern Israel. He touches on controversial questions such as “What behind-the-scenes politics touched off the turmoil in the Middle East?”, “What does Bible prophecy really have to say?”, and “Can bitter enemies ever be reconciled?” Originally published by Chosen Books in 1984 and now expanded with a new introduction by the author, a new foreword by former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, and a “Since Then” epilogue by writer David Hazard, this compelling book offers readers hope-filled insight into living at peace in the most volatile region of the world.

With all due respects Ps Barbara as much as I agree with the depravity of the decision I cannot agree with your decree of Australia, that includes me and all the Ecclesia who believe, that we are not a sheep nation . WEare a HOLY NATION.The current labour government is a goat government that we the Ecclesia can change if we turn humbly to God and forsake our wicked ways.
Our mouth has the power to decree a thing and to establish it . Let us humble ourselves and repent for not having done enough of that . Let us continue to come together in the oneness of heart and agree with faith in our God who declares from Jeremiah 32: 27 “ BEHOLD I AM THE GOD OF ALL FLESH . IS ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR ME ?” That also includes the unbelieving PM & Co . God showed through the revelation that the parliamentarians have not been shown from the Bible the history of Beersheva and the living WORD of Genesis 12:3 and Joel3:2 are connected and a irreversible covenant to those seed of Abraham who will continually make mention in His Courts and will continue to make a hedge and stand in the gap. In all truth I reverse your decree of judgement and Woe to Australia and ask for Gods MERCY THAT WILL TRIUMPH OVER HIS JUDGEMENT. We have to stand in FAITH till we see the change. God bless Australia and Israel forever.
