The Church and the Harvest: Day 15
Intention
To pray for God to send out labourers into the harvest field.
Scripture
“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”
– Matthew 9:37–38
Reflection
Throughout history, every major move of God has started with prayer. Before Pentecost, the disciples “continued with one accord in prayer and supplication” (Acts 1:14). Before the first missionary journey, the church at Antioch fasted and prayed (Acts 13:2–3). When God’s people pray, the Spirit is stirred, leaders gain strength, and the lost are drawn to salvation.
The Reaching Australia 2033 vision calls us once again to prayer – for the Church, her leaders, and for a harvest of souls nationwide. It is a bold vision: to see every person in Australia genuinely encounter Jesus by Pentecost 2033. This vision can only be achieved through God’s power. We cannot rely on human effort or strategies.
Jesus’ words in Matthew 9:37–38 highlight two essential truths.
First, the harvest is ripe. People are seeking hope, meaning, forgiveness, and love.
Second, gathering the harvest is limited by the number of workers. If workers do not go, many will be lost.
Therefore, our first step is prayer.
First, we should pray to the Lord of the harvest to equip and send out workers – pastors, evangelists, chaplains, church planters, and everyday believers – into Australia’s plentiful fields.
We should also pray for our church leaders, who bear the responsibility of shepherding and guiding God’s people. Pray that they become men and women of courage, integrity, and vision – grounded in God’s word, empowered by his Spirit, and protected from weariness and compromise. In a culture frequently antagonistic toward truth, they need wisdom like Daniel’s, boldness like Peter’s, and perseverance like Paul’s.
Pray also for the Church in Australia to awaken, shifting from maintenance mode to active mission. May every congregation see itself as a missionary outpost, every believer as an ambassador of Christ, and every community as a field ready for harvest.
Above all, pray for a bountiful harvest of souls, that hearts hardened by apathy may be softened by grace, prodigals may return home, the gospel may transform families, and revival may sweep across the land.
The task before us is great, but the God who calls us is greater still. As we pray and obey, he will do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank you that you are the Lord of the harvest. We lift the Australian Church before you, including the leaders you have placed to shepherd your people. Strengthen them with courage, holiness, and vision. Guard their hearts, renew their joy, and fill them afresh with your Spirit.
Lord, awaken your Church. Break our complacency. Unite us across denominations and generations to proclaim one gospel: Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and reigning.
We pray for the lost across our nation. Open their eyes to see your glory, their ears to hear your truth, and their hearts to receive your grace. Send out labourers into every field – schools, workplaces, homes, and communities – until all have heard.
Please ignite a movement of your Spirit that brings revival to this land.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
