What’s at Stake in the Victorian Election: A Short Backgrounder
With a Victorian election just months away, it’s critical that Christian voters start to think about how they’ll vote come November. This article provides a brief context for the upcoming election.
To borrow from the Apostle Paul, “whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Voting seems to fall under the “whatever you do” category, so it’s important that Christians exercise due diligence when researching voting options this November.
Things are not looking good in the Victorian political landscape. Premier Daniel Andrews continues to pursue an aggressively anti-Christian agenda, while the Liberal Party is not convincing many Christians that it is a great alternative.
For example, Bernie Finn — a staunch, Christian, pro-life member — was expelled from the Liberal Party on the basis of pro-life comments he made (read to the end to find out how that story ended).
However, it is important that we don’t give up hope. There are alternatives, and there is a way forward in the Victorian election.
Solid Options
Recently, I interviewed Family First’s National Director, Lyle Shelton (a champion for Christian values in this nation), on the Daily Declaration Podcast. We discussed the importance of Christian engagement as well as what is a stake in the Victorian election.
Check out the full interview on YouTube, here or on the podcast, here.
Alongside the Democratic Labour Party — now led by Bernie Finn — the Family First Party is a solid pro-life, pro-family political option in Victoria.
Lyle Shelton is hopeful that Family First (or another good minor party like the Democratic Labour Party) can win at least one seat in the Victorian Upper House.
This will help to counter the negative influence in the parliament, hold the Liberal Party accountable, and perhaps even hold a balance of power.
Spread Awareness
You might be tempted to insist that there are just too few sensible, Christian people in Victoria to make a real impact in the upcoming election. But, as BINARY research recently suggested, an overwhelming majority of Victorians — even in Dan Andrews’ own seat — are horrified by the policies being pursued by the Labor Government.
And this sentiment seems to be on the rise.
You are certainly not alone.
The bad news is that very few Victorians are aware of the anti-Christian agenda of the current government. That’s why we’re trying to spread the word – through Daily Declaration Podcast interviews as well as through publications on the Daily Declaration.
Bernie Finn, whom I’m scheduled to interview for the podcast in late September (keep an eye out for that by subscribing to our podcast and YouTube Channel), also believes that the DLP has enough support to wield significant influence in the next parliament.
To top off the good news, the Liberal Party has (almost by accident) preselected a godly, pro-life Christian candidate to replace Bernie Finn.
You can read more about Moira Deeming — Bernie’s replacement — here.
You can help us in our campaign to raise awareness of the Andrews Government’s anti-Christian policies by doing four things.
Firstly, as always, you can continue to pray for the work of the Canberra Declaration and for the upcoming Victorian election.
Secondly, you can share this article with a friend or family member who might value this information.
Thirdly, you could share our interview with Lyle Shelton on social media or with your friends and family.
Finally, we always value your thoughtful and prayerful financial support.
Yours for Christian Values,
Cody Mitchell, Kurt Mahlburg & Warwick Marsh

I think we all believe that we have a neural pathway in our brain that can detect truth from lies. However, it seems to me that there are a series of filters that we consciously or subconsciously apply to the inputs of information that obscure or cancel some or all of the data.
An excellent summary on a crucially important election .
Thanks so much for this breath of fresh air and encouragement in the face of a daunting election. So reassuring to know there are many seeking God for a spiritual transformation that only He can orchestrate, in Victoria and across the nation.
A team effort ….. and , the grace of God.
Thank you all.
But God…
We are praying for this election in our prayer group in NSW. Standing with the Christians in Victoria and praying that many eyes will be opened.
