Kurt Mahlburg
Kurt Mahlburg is a husband to Angie, a father, a freelance writer, and a familiar Australian voice on culture and the Christian faith. He is the Senior Editor and a regular columnist at The Daily Declaration. More of his writings can be found at Mercator, Intellectual Takeout, The Spectator Australia, The American Spectator and Caldron Pool.
A published author, Kurt’s breakout title Cross and Culture: Can Jesus Save the West? explores the social and spiritual challenges facing Western nations and the hope Jesus offers in our crisis. Along with Warwick Marsh, Kurt has co-authored several other books, including Great Southland Revival, Power of Prayer, and Jesus: The Centre of It All.
Kurt is passionate about speaking the truths of Jesus into the public square in a way that makes sense to a secular culture and that gives Christians courage to do the same. He has previously studied architecture, worked as a primary school teacher, and served as a missionary and a young adults pastor. Among Kurt’s other interests are philosophy, history, surf, the outdoors, and travel. He hosts his own blog at Cross and Culture.

The arguments given by those supporting vaccine passports sound impressive, but do they really hold water? Last week I wrote 5 Reasons Why Vaccine Passports are an Ethical Disaster. It was met with plenty of praise and agreement—but more than a few rebuttals as well. [...]

Many Australians affirm mandatory vaccination without considering the implications. But no matter how you look at it, vaccine passports are an ethical disaster. A year ago, mandatory vaccines were almost unimaginable, the stuff of science fiction. Now vaccine passports are being presented to us as [...]

Freedom is precious. But under lockdown, too many Australians have forgotten the meaning of liberty; the real definition of freedom. In truth, freedom comes from God, not government. In New South Wales, all eyes were on Premier Gladys Berejiklian last Thursday when she announced an [...]

For decades, ‘My body, my choice’ has been a mantra for those defending abortion. Given that it is the mother, not the father, who is tasked with carrying a baby to full term, it is understandable for there to be significant debate over the rights [...]

In a fascinating conversation, John Anderson interviews professor and author Carl Trueman about the ‘modern self’ and how we can reclaim contentment from the jaws of modern despair. Perhaps there is no greater irony in the modern world: the more we have prioritised our happiness, [...]

In a very short space of time, many Australian citizens have woken up to a very sobering choice: lose my medical autonomy, or lose my career. For some, a job loss will also mean the inability to continue supporting families or making mortgage repayments. Vaccine [...]

The cost in mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence and suicide is staggering. This week there have been renewed calls in the media and among Australia’s political leaders to move beyond a “Zero Covid” mindset, to begin our transition out of ongoing lockdowns and learn [...]

Matt Canavan and George Christensen have risked their reputations to speak up for suffering Australians. Their parliamentary speeches on lockdowns are worth listening to. In any age, it is difficult and costly to push against the majority viewpoint on an issue and take a principled [...]

A commonly-repeated criticism since the beginning of 2020 has been that if you prioritise freedom over safety, you are being selfish. In many Christian circles, it is said to be “not loving your neighbour” if you vocally defend freedom. Such ideas continue to circulate, even [...]
