Queensland's LNP government is quietly implementing Labor's abortion expansion — allowing nurses and midwives to perform abortions. Here's what that means for Queenslanders.

The Queensland Pro-Life Rally outside Brisbane Parliament on 9 February 2026 was a major milestone for the Australian Pro-Life movement. It gained enormous media attention, and had a profound effect throughout the nation.

For now, at least, Crisafulli may succeed in dampening “right-wing noise” within the LNP. But if he continues to dismiss and alienate that constituency, the long-term cost could be high.

In March 2024, the Queensland Government announced its decision to roll out a new Termination of Pregnancy Action Plan 2032. The Miles Labor government has committed to pouring $41.8 million of Queensland taxpayers’ hard-earned money into this plan over the next five years.

Queensland is on the verge of becoming Australia’s first state to enact a law allowing nurses and midwives to administer the abortion pill, signifying the next stage in the Labor government’s drive for universal abortion access.
